Under the current leadership, New Mexico’s crime rate has grown into a crisis impacting individuals and businesses throughout the state. New Mexico has become one of the most dangerous states to live in due to the unprecedented rise in crime. Despite the consistent rise in violent crimes and crimes against personal property, there has been no effective strategy or focus to make New Mexico a safer state.

I will fight to improve the criminal justice system across New Mexico instead of propping up frustrating policies like “Catch and Release” or “Defund the Police.” I am committed to working closely with police, prosecutors, victims, and public defenders to repair and improve the current dysfunctional criminal justice system to make New Mexico a safe place to live, raise a family, and run a business.

New Mexico has become a dangerous state to serve as a law enforcement officer. These men and women who serve and protect the lives and property of our communities, have unjustly been labeled and blamed as the “problem” even while professionally and respectfully carrying out their duties. Law enforcement and the people of New Mexico deserve an Attorney General who will fight to keep police well funded and well trained to best serve their communities. I will strive to uproot radical anti-police rhetoric and policies while increasing effectiveness, accountability, and transparency.

New Mexico has many challenges to overcome on our path to a safer and more prosperous place to live. New Mexico cannot afford an unsecure border. A weak border policy sends a message to cartels, drug smugglers, and human traffickers that New Mexico is an open door to the United States with easy access to vulnerable communities.  An open border does not simply invite drug trade and human trafficking into New Mexico, it also increases the demand in the economy of criminal activity. An unsecure border incentivizes bad actors to smuggle more drugs into our communities and to kidnap, imprison, and sell more innocent victims.    

I will ensure that our border patrol is fully funded and integrated into a regional and national effort. I will fight to stop illegal border crossings and drug cartels from using our border as an unlocked door, granting access to our communities.

The government of New Mexico exists to serve and protect the people of New Mexico. Taxpayers deserve and demand accountability from our government. I will restore transparency to the office of the Attorney General as New Mexico’s top law enforcement office. New Mexico desperately needs an Attorney General with no strings attached who can investigate government corruption, increase government transparency, and prosecute government officials who illegally take advantage of their public office. I will defend the people of New Mexico and protect their hard-earned tax dollars.

New Mexico is a growing hub of human trafficking. Human trafficking is truly modern-day slavery, creating a market place for all manner of the worst kinds of evil. One of the many terrible realities of human trafficking is that the victims are transported and imprisoned in our very communities hidden away in homes or businesses behind closed doors and, in some cases, hidden in plain sight.I will work closely with law enforcement, survivors of human trafficking, and survivor advocates.

I will dedicate more resources than ever before to the education, training, and investigatory initiatives required to defend our communities and liberate those who are bought and sold against their will.
